Top 5 Android and iOS apps of the week

This top 5 is not like our selections of free applications that we offer you twice a week. Here, we install the applications on our own smartphones and test them. We check if there are not too many in-app purchases, ads and if the applications respect your personal data more or less.

We try to select useful applications, whether for productivity, personalization of your interface or digital well-being. And, our top 5 always includes at least one mobile game. Applications can be free or paid, with or without a subscription. But, it will always be indicated!

We take issues related to in-app purchases and advertising seriously, which is why we mention them in the descriptions of the relevant apps.

Perfect Grind (Android and iOS)

Have you played Tony Hawk on the PS1? It was one of the best implementations of a skateboarding game at the time, and even decades later, the game is still a dream today (if you can get past the stone-age graphics, of course). With Perfect Grind, you skate with one finger while performing crazy combos. You can also create your own skatepark and have fun.

I love the way the characters look, whether it’s a banana, a lollipop, or someone wearing an animal mask. It’s really fun to play, but if you don’t want to sit through the ads and enjoy the extra cards, you can just pay a small fee and you’re good to go. It’s nice to be able to play with one finger without having to coordinate your thumbs by pressing different virtual buttons.

When it comes to creating your own skate park, prepare to be blown away as there are over 50 different pre-mades to choose from. You can also share your skate park with others by downloading creations from players around the world. If you’re looking for a story, Perfect Grind isn’t the game for you as it lets you dive right into the story without missing a beat.

Cara: Art & Social (Android)

AI has certainly come a long way, and its use in social media has become more common in recent times. In fact, social media platforms sometimes label real photos as AI-created, while using this user-generated content to train their AI models. As an artist, you should be concerned about this situation, which could affect your bowl of rice. That’s where Cara comes in, a new social network and app that aims to protect artistic integrity.

Cara claims to automatically filter AI-generated images from users’ portfolios, ensuring that AI-generated content isn’t served to you. This is possible thanks to its built-in AI image detector, and you can also customize the type of artwork you want to see. Of course, digital connection is just the beginning, why not meet up for coffee?

I love that there are also job listings available from reputable institutions, because life as an artist (in virtually any form) has never been easy. With no ads to disrupt your experience while keeping the focus on content, Cara seems perfect for artists. However, I really hope it improves over time and the user base grows, otherwise it’s a good idea ruined by the lack of support from the community.

Captions: For talking videos (Android & iOS)

Are you a content creator for social media and love shooting videos of yourself? You might have some tips and tricks you’d like to share with the rest of the world, and sometimes it helps to have subtitles. Instead of manually embedding the caption, word by word, it may be better to let an app do the work. Here are the subtitles: From writing the script to recording, editing and sharing, Captions ensures your videos receive dynamic, word-for-word captions using text-to-speech whispered from openAI. Of course, English is the main language.

AI is smart enough to remove filler words while creating line breaks with a single click. Want to make your site more engaging? Add images and GIFs as you speak. All captions are fully customizable with dozens of pre-made styles. Want to film on the go? Use the island’s dynamic teleprompter.

Note that there is a 5-minute limit per clip, but that’s okay since most people don’t have a long attention span. You also have to be willing to upload everything to the app, so if you’re concerned about data privacy, you might want to skip this app. Otherwise, I think if you’re not sharing anything sensitive, Captions shouldn’t have a problem processing your videos on its server.

CaffeInMe – Caffeine Tracker (Android)

What is the most popular drink in the world? Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world after water, but there are still a significant number of coffee drinkers around the world. What does CaffeInMe do? First, you record your consumption to know how much coffee you have consumed during the day. The details include the time of consumption so the app can provide an estimate of the caffeine content in your body at that time.

When you’re bored, you can also check out the information section, where you’ll find information on various topics that every coffee lover should know, including the history of coffee, what caffeine is, how much caffeine is in coffee, and how much caffeine is safe for you to consume. Of course, if you’re starting to feel sleepy, maybe a little coffee could help 😉

Subscribing to the app is a good idea because it unlocks many more features than the basic option. This includes other drinks such as Starbucks’ extensive menu, all kinds of Coke, and even McDonald’s drinks! It’s nice to see that tea is included in the list. From a scientific point of view, this is an estimate of the amount of caffeine you have left in your body based on your last consumption, so as not to disrupt your sleep pattern.

Copy – Text and Screenshots (Android)

Copying and pasting is second nature to virtually everyone these days, as it has become an inherent part of the digital world. Remember those times when you wanted to copy a whole section of text from an entire web page, but it turned out to be a very frustrating experience for long articles? This is where Copy comes in. It allows you to easily copy text and screenshots.

To use Copy, you first need to set Copy as your default helper app. From there, using Copy is a breeze. Simply swipe up from the bottom left or right corner to enable Copy on any screen. Once enabled, simply tap on the highlighted text to copy it. If you want to know what you copied, swipe up and all the copied text will be revealed. Want to share the screenshot? It’s easy, just tap the image button and you’re done.

It took me a while to get the hang of Copy because I use gestures on my Android phone that tend to bring up different actions instead of Copy. Once the muscle memory kicked in, everything went like clockwork. Note that enabling Copy interferes with Google Voice, so if you use Google Voice as your language app, you should decide which app you will use the most. Unfortunately, this is a limitation of Android, since only one helper app can be used at a time.

What do you think of this week’s featured apps list? Did you enjoy any of our recommendations? Is there another app you’re dying to share with the world? Let us know in the comments!
