The podiums of the Paris 2024 Games

Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024 and three-time Olympic champion, Béatrice Dupuy, President and Managing Director France and Benelux of P&G, Global Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, accompanied by Alexis Hanquinquant, Paralympic Para triathlon champion and one of the 6 French athletes supported by P&G France and its brands, gathered at Pulse, the headquarters of Paris 2024, around this iconic object which fuels the dreams of athletes around the world.

The podium, the consecration for the athletes of the Games

The podium is the ultimate symbol of performance and its celebration. For Olympic and Paralympic athletes, reaching the podium is an achievement. It is the conclusion of a long journey, the ultimate consecration of their sporting achievement and a moment which remains forever engraved in their memory. By partnering in the manufacturing of the podiums with Paris 2024, P&G reiterates its commitment to supporting the performance and preparation of athletes for these Games.

Since 1932 and the Olympic Games in Lake Placid (winter) and Los Angeles (summer), the podium has been an integral part of the winners’ ceremony.

A design inspired by the work of Gustave Eiffel

Paris 2024 wanted to create continuity between the medal and the podium, these two symbols of performance which make up the identity of the Games and the pride of the host country. The design of the Olympic and Paralympic podiums is directly inspired by the metal lace of the Eiffel Tower which is also found in the bridges inspired by the work of Gustave Eiffel. The lines and curves which adorn their facade are the extension of the metal arches which are the particularity of the work of Gustave Eiffel and are associated with Paris and France throughout the world. The gray of the podium surface refers to the famous Parisian rooftops, a symbolic way of taking the medalists into the Parisian sky. The choice of sober colors (gray and off-white) and a refined design responds to the desire to make the podium coexist with the Look of the Games, colorful and festive, as well as with the colors of the official outfits of each delegation . A first illustration is given with the visual which accompanies this unveiling and features three Paralympic athletes from the French team (Mandy François-Elie and Charles-Antoine Kouakou in Para athletics and Solène Sache in Para swimming) in the outfit that will carry the Blues on the podium, signed Le Coq Sportif, Official Partner of the Paris 2024 Games.

The modular, built-in design of the podium makes it possible to adapt it to different configurations (individual or team Olympic/Paralympic events) and to limit the number of podiums produced (68 podiums in total).

Paralympic podium: one design and one level

Designed according to the same design as the Olympic podium, a constant since the London 2012 Games, the Paralympic podium is distinguished by its configuration on a single level. The gold medalist(s) stand in the center, behind a raised façade. A side ramp with a slight inclination (5%) facilitates accessibility.

Made in France, from French wood and 100% recycled plastic.

From design to manufacturing and assembly, the podiums meet the Paris 2024 commitment to promote “Made in France” and the know-how of local companies. The podiums are made from French wood and 100% recycled plastic in France. The transformation of this plastic into plates was carried out by a social and solidarity economy (ESS) company based in Seine-Saint-Denis, the production of the wooden structure by a carpentry and the assembly by an SME both also located in Île-de-France.

Key figures:

  • 68 Olympic and Paralympic podiums (45 Olympic podiums and 23 Paralympic podiums)

“Getting on the podium, for an athlete, is a moment of pride, emotion and ultimate consecration: you put the medal around your neck and, in an instant, the dream becomes reality: you enter into great history games. With P&G, Global Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games since 2010, we are pleased to unveil the podiums for the Paris 2024 Games, whose design is a continuation of our medals with a piece of the Eiffel Tower within them, in s Inspired by the work of the great French architect Gustave Eiffel whose lines and curves are unique throughout the world. With these podiums made in France from French wood and 100% recycled plastic, we offer athletes a real stage where they will be proud to stand and wear the colors of their country, before the eyes of the whole world. », Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024

On D-100 of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, I am very proud on behalf of the P&G group to support one of the exceptional projects of Paris 2024, the podium. And particularly proud for two reasons. It is ‘Made in France’, which is close to our hearts because we have also been producing in France for over 50 years. Furthermore, the podium is the ultimate symbol of performance and the consecration of the sporting exploits of all athletes. As a Global Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we have supported the performances of these champions on a daily basis with our brands for almost 15 years. Béatrice Dupuy, President and Managing Director France of P&G

“I am very happy to discover the podiums of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, even more so less than 100 days before the start of the Paralympic Games. Getting on the podium at the Paralympic Games means going from champion of a discipline to the recognition of an entire country. And seeing this podium in real life today makes me even more want to surpass myself, to go all the way and live this unique experience in the world again, but this time, in Paris, at the home, in front of my family and my audience. It will really have a very special flavor and will remain engraved forever.” , Alexis Hanquinquant, Paralympic champion and double world champion of Para triathlon

The Paralympic Games in full light less than 100 days before the opening ceremony

The unveiling of the podiums is one of the highlights of a week dedicated to celebrations around the 100 days that separate us from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. On this occasion, Paris invites the French to let themselves be carried away by the atmosphere of the Games and to extend the celebration until the end, until September 8. A 360° campaign has been launched which sounds like a call to mobilization (“I’m missing nothing, except you”) to come and support the athletes and take advantage now of the opportunities offered by the ticket office: tickets from €15 for the Para athletics events at the Stade de France, Wheelchair tennis at Roland-Garros, Blind football at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, or Para swimming at the Paris La Défense Arena; but also the biggest finals from €25 or the closing ceremony from €45. There are only 100 days left to be at the historic event, and to be able to shout, sing, cry to the rhythm of the exploits of the Para athletes and on exceptional sites.
