The Olympic flame journey

The flame is expected in Dijon from 5:50 p.m. for the last stage of the journey in the department. The Dijon associations have planned sporting and cultural events along the 6 km route. Each torchbearer will carry the flame over a distance of 200 meters. As in each of the French cities hosting the last stage of the relay, a cauldron lighting ceremony, like the opening ceremonies of the Games, is planned around 7:30 p.m. It is the last bearer of the Dijon relay who will have the chance to perform this highly symbolic gesture.

The Dijon torchbearers

In total, around thirty bearers will participate in the torch relay in Dijon: athletes – including the five athletes from #TeamSportDijon – but also personalities whose journey is consistent with the values ​​of commitment and fraternity supported by the Games Olympics like Jean-Philippe Girard, founder of Eurogerm and former president of Dijon Bourgogne Invest.

5 athletes from #TeamSportDijon will represent the capital of Burgundy:

Christelle Girard (shooting), Vicky Graillot (weightlifting), Alexis Miellet (athletics), Sébastien Verdin (wheelchair rugby)as well as Léa Ferney (table tennis).

Support from the City of Dijon for its high-level athletes

The support of the City of Dijon for its high-level athletes takes the form of financial aid. The objective is to enable them to prepare as best as possible for all the sporting events and competitions in which they are required to participate. The year 2022 was marked by the creation of #Team Sport Dijon, a collective which aims to bring them together and unite them within the same team.

Dijon, Olympic preparation center

Dijon has been designated an “Olympic preparation center” for the Olympics which will take place in Paris in 2024.

Labeled “Land of Play” in November 2019, the regional capital is now taking its place in this global event. From 2021, Dijon will be in a position to welcome an international delegation wishing to train in France ahead of the big meeting. With this recognition, the Games organizing committee salutes the many assets of the city and the metropolis from which future competitors will benefit: richness and quality of heritage and sporting fabric, accessible and innovative infrastructure, ecological performance, proximity to Paris, etc.

Dijon, an active and sporting city, with its four laurels, confirms its status as a center of excellence at the national level. A real sporting culture developed over many years within the city and the metropolis thanks to the mobilization of all partners: professional clubs, numerous sports associations, licensees, volunteers, institutions…

List of sites designated to host international sports delegations

  • CREPS Dijon-Burgundy (football, gymnastics, weightlifting, handball, judo, wrestling, rugby sevens, Olympic and Paralympic archery)
  • Sports Palace (boxing), Ten gyms are available in this large complex. One of them dedicated to English boxing has all the equipment necessary for practicing this discipline.
  • Véronique Pecqueux-Rolland Room in Longvic (Handball). This ultra-modern structure, inaugurated in 2016, houses a handball room and offers ideal training conditions. A weight room is part of the equipment available.
  • Bourillot Stadium (rugby 7s). The rugby players play on a natural grass field of honor, a synthetic playing area and four grassy training fields. The Stade Dijon enclosure is continually improving and is still undergoing work this year.
  • Poussots Stadium (soccer). The training center used by Dijon Football Côte-d’Or has three artificial turf fields and a natural grass playing area. Soon to be managed by the Football League, this training center will meet the needs of international teams in every way.
  • Colette-Besson Stadium (athletics, para athletics). Built to the standards of the French Athletics Federation and in the process of international approval, this setting meets all the needs of athletes. The 400 meter track has recently been renovated to adapt to the highest level requirements.
  • Olympic swimming pool (race swimming, para race swimming, artistic swimming). An aquatic complex of excellence, the Olympic swimming pool has three pools, a 20 m deep diving pit and a wellness area. Its 1,650 m2 of water surface and its 10-lane Olympic pool have already hosted major national events.
  • Jean-Claude Melinand Municipal Sports School (triathlon, para triathlon). This facility has several rooms, including two specifically dedicated to motor skills and strength training and a bicycle workshop. The proximity of Lake Kir and high-quality natural spaces make it an ideal base.
  • Espace Jérôme Golmard, Kir Lake tennis (tennis, para tennis). This tennis venue is equipped with twelve clay courts, managed and maintained by the Burgundy League. In case of bad weather, competitors can go to the Voltaire hall in the city center which also has clay courts.
  • Lake Kir nautical base (canoeing, kayaking, beach volleyball). The Dijon beach has three beach volleyball courts equipped with showers, toilets and changing rooms. Athletes have a fallback solution in case of bad weather with the Emmanuel-Rego hall, one of the three covered structures existing in France located in the Toison-d’Or district. Thirty-seven hectares of water surface are also available to athletes. The nautical base has a capacity of 120 people with collective changing rooms.
