Summer Game Fest 2024: 10 games we’d like to see at the biggest video game event of the year

The rest after this ad

Geoff warns: 2024 Summer Game Fest will be lighter than previous years, with the announced absence of One More Thing, one of the little traditions inherited from the late E3 conferences. But be careful, this clearly doesn’t mean that there won’t be some nice announcements in the lot, just that we should expect a majority of updates for games that have already shown their showing off over the course of these last months. In this article, we will see 10 headlines ranked in order of “probability of appearance” during SGF 2024: from those that have already confirmed their presence to daydreams but nevertheless plausible.

Monster Hunter Wilds

After the gameplay trailer which helped save the last State of Play from sinking, Monster Hunter Wilds has already confirmed its presence at the Summer Games Festfor a focus that we imagine is much richer in new and detailed information on the content of the game. What is this dynamic biome thing? Will we really be able to carry two weapons with us thanks to the new Swiss Army knife mount? Will the Lagiacrus finally make its return in a main episode of the series? We hope to have the answer to all these questions on June 7.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

If Star Wars Outlaws risks being the star of the Ubisoft Forward of SGF2024, it’s a safe bet that the next major episode of the Assassin’s Creed series will be there, him too, to show something concrete. With a release scheduled for November and only a cinematic trailer to its credit, the episode with the period and location most requested by players since the 1st, will obviously be present to show what it’s made of. After the intermediate episode Mirage, sold as a return to basics, we can’t wait to see what ideas the Ubisoft Quebec teams will put forward to dynamize a formula, now well known, but constantly evolving.

Metaphor Re:Fantazio

If you’re looking for the biggest Japanese RPG of the end of the year, here it is! Developed by the team behind the Persona series, Metaphor is a transposition of the student simulation formula mixed with dungeons, in an original dark fantasy universe and enhanced with new features that will shape its personality. We note, for example, the fact of using two combat gameplays: a very action-oriented combat mode with dodging and all the fuss for small fry and turn-based for large-scale clashes. With its scenario which already promises to be surprising and a Shoji Meguro in an OST which takes him out of his comfort zone, Metaphor will undoubtedly be a special moment for fans of ambitious Japanese productions.

Doom: The Dark Ages

This is the most persistent rumor surrounding the Xbox conference this weekend of festivities. The Doom Guy would therefore be back in business, but in a completely different lease, since the atmosphere would lean much more towards medieval-fantasy than the previous opuses. An atmosphere that we could already partly find in the last chapters of the excellent Doom Eternal, we can’t wait to see what an entire game based on this kind of atmosphere will give. As long as the grappling shotgun is still there, the rest of us you know…

Death Stranding 2

Geoff Keighley and Uncle Kojima, it’s a long love story. It’s been a long time since the producer who went to see Furiosa at least 4 times at the cinema always reserves little scoops for his friend Geoff (see the latest Game Awards). It is therefore entirely plausible to see more about DS2, a highly anticipated PS5 title, but which will not see the blue light of our consoles until next year. The last trailer was already sufficiently explicit regarding the new elements of this sequelbut we wouldn’t give up on a few more clues before complete radio silence.

Gears of War 6

In the same vein as Doom: Dark Ages, these are rumors, but sufficiently insistent and relevant that we believe them to death. After a fifth episode of formidable effectiveness, but which nonetheless left some fans in the lurch with its semi-open world not always incredibly relevant, Father Fénix and his friends will come to continue (and conclude?) this new trilogy of the new generation.

Borderlands 4

As for Dreadwold which we will see just below, 2K indicated that he would be present during the eventwithout specifying which game. If persistent rumors point to a Bioshock 4 which would obviously make us very happy, it will most certainly be Borderlands 4. Which would also be excellent news, let’s make no mistake, finally unless Gearbox has the “excellent idea” of serving us 2 tiktokers with boomer humor as antagonist guides.

Dragon Age 4 Dreadwolf

Electronic Arts has confirmed its participation in the event, but without indicating with which game. If there is no doubt that EAFC will be talked about soon enough, we do not forget that the American publisher and Bioware have two big projects in their pipeline: a new Mass Effect, which is certainly still very far from us, and a Dragon Age 4 which should be ripe, at least if its development has gone well. After the excellent Inquisition, we hope that the team behind this long-term project will succeed in offering something worthy of the 1st and 3rd episodes of the series.

Hollow Knight Silksong

We don’t even know how many times we’ve typed this title in the various conference expectations and other release rumors. And this time, is it the right one or not? We know that the game has received its age rating in Korea and is available for wishlists on Xbox, but still nothing substantial about Hornet’s epic journey in the unique world of Hallownest . If you don’t understand why this game is so anticipated, it’s quite simply because the first episode is considered by a lot of players as one, if not the, best metroidvania of all time, yes m ‘sir ladies. Note that this episode will be available directly on Microsoft’s game pass.

Metroid Prime 4

With a Nintendo Switch at the end of its life, MP4 is ultimately the last big cartridge from Big N planned for its hybrid console with interplanetary success. By making the list of “big” original games already announced by the Japanese manufacturer, all that remains is the next adventures of Samus Aran to complete the loop. However, as usual with the small craftsman’s in-house productions, it is very complicated to have an idea of the progress of development: the last time Nintendo communicated about the game, to entrust the project to Retro Studios (developer from the original trilogy) after taking it out of Bandai Namco’s hands. It’s already been 5 years since this change of studio was made and we have had no news of the next FPS Metroid, until this new Nintendo Direct? This would make a last stand worthy of the name for the Switch.
