On July 20, the Olympic flame travels through Seine-et-Marne

Saturday July 20, 2024, Seine-et-Marne will welcome the Olympic flame for the 62nd stage of its national journey which began on April 16 in Greece at Olympia. Fontainebleau, Provins, Meaux, Melun… and of course the Olympic site of Vaires-sur-Marne will welcome the torch bearers heralding the Paris 2024 Games organized from July 26 to August 11 (Olympic Games) and August 28 to September 8, 2024 (Paralympic Olympics). The relay will pass through 13 towns in Seine-et-Marne, the first Ile-de-France department to have been awarded the Terres des Jeux label.

The opening of the Paralympic Games, scheduled for Wednesday August 28, 2024, will be celebrated by the Torch Relay. This will leave Great Britain on August 25. Upon its arrival in France, it will be divided into 12 Flames – in reference to the 12 days of events – a uniqueness brought by the disabled sports movement. Because, unlike the Olympic flame, several Paralympic flames can shine simultaneously!

On the 3rd day of the Relay, August 27, the 12 flames will cross Île-de-France with a passage in Seine-et-Marne, in Fontainebleau and Trilport.

Some tips for celebrating this event and enjoying the festivities

To attend the torch relay on the different stages of the route, it is recommended:

  • to anticipate its arrival on the path of the flame and the celebration site;
  • to obtain information via reliable sources (site and social networks of the prefecture, the department council and the municipalities);
  • to respect the instructions of the security forces;
  • follow the diversion routes in place;
  • not to accompany the relay to avoid congestion.

As the flame passes:

  • The roads used will be closed to traffic 45 minutes before the flame passes and reopened 10 minutes after.
  • On the side of the road, do not cross the road without checking for the possible arrival of vehicles or torchbearers.
  • Do not run alongside the torchbearers so as not to hinder their progress.
  • Do not hinder the torchbearers when taking photos, videos or selfies.
  • Children must be supervised and younger ones held by the hand.
  • Pets are kept on a leash.
  • In case of extreme heat or rain: bring suitable clothing and something to protect yourself.

The events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Seine-et-Marne

The Île-de-France Olympic nautical stadium in Vaires-sur-Marne will host 45 events during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Olympic rowing and canoeing events from July 27 to August 5, 2024, then the para rowing from August 30 to 1er September, followed by the para canoe events from September 6 to 8, 2024. The complex is structured around three major elements of the leisure island of Vaires-Torcy: the lake, the whitewater stadium and the white plateau, which accommodates new buildings with a landscaped roof accessible to the promenade. The 4,400 m2 sports center includes the new whitewater stadium and its two courses of 300 meters and 150 meters long; the rowing and canoe-kayak course, 2,200 meters long, equipped with a finish tower; a medical-sports annex; a weight room; administrative spaces and a media center. Added to this is a training and accommodation center. The town of Courtry will also be concerned for the Paralympic Olympic Games since the route of the para-cycling races passes through the town, notably offering a 4.5% gradient.
