LIVE – Summer Game Fest 2024: follow the big video game conference

Summer Game Fest officially begins this Friday, June 7, with a conference organized by Geoff Keighley. The evening promises to be full of announcements. Numerama invites you not to miss anything.

Today is the kickoff of Summer Game Fest, the event that replaces E3. Over the next few days, several conferences are being organized to get your fill of gaming news – in the wake of Sony’s lukewarm State of Play. While waiting for Microsoft on Sunday and Ubisoft on Monday, Geoff Keighley gets the ball rolling with a show live from the YouTube Theater.

Two hours of show, but no GTA 6

Broadcast in 4K and 60 fps

Note that the Summer Game Fest will be broadcast in 4K and 60 fps on the YouTube platform.

This may seem surprising, but Geoff Keighley, organizer and presenter of the Summer Game Fest, was keen to temper expectations regarding this 2024 edition. During a question/answer session organized on Twitch and cited by Kotaku on June 4 , he indicated: “ There will be things announced, but it’s not a show with titles planned for 2026 or 2027 or teasers for games expected in a very long time. »

He has established a list of games that will not be there, to avoid disappointment:

Don’t expect a new trailer for GTA 6 either: Rockstar Games does not need such an event to attract the spotlight and this future blockbuster will be released in a very long time (fall 2025). The Summer Game Fest 2024 rather targets productions that are relevant in the short term, including some that have already been released (example: Palworld). Despite everything, we are not safe from a nice surprise.

  • What we are sure to see : games, games and more games (coming soon).
  • What we would like to see : a new opus of a cult license (Resident Evil 9?).
  • What we would like to see, but which will never happen : a new console.

All Summer Game Fest announcements live

11:50 p.m. : Warhorse Studios is back with Kingdom Come Deliverance II. Do you like knights? It is planned for 2024.

11:47 p.m. : go-go Power Rangers! There is going to be a new Power Rangers game with a retro look and pixelart rendering. It will be a varied action game, subtitled Rita’s Rewind.

11:43 p.m. : Theater of Idols, Grave Seasons, Sleep, Fear the Spotlight, The Simulation And Project C are horror games published by Blumhouse (which produced a lot of horror films, like M3GAN). The idea is to ride on the popularity of horror and apply the recipe that worked for films, by offering a springboard for creators and taking risks.

11:40 p.m. : sequence of trailers with Battle Crush And Mecha Break (which looks a lot like Armored Core).

11:38 p.m. : some advertisements… with Samsung (which invested a lot).

11:36 p.m. : news from Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, a fighting game from an illustrious franchise that will bridge the past and present. Released in 2025.

11:34 p.m. : preview of the multiplayer game’s Extraction mode Delta Force: Hawk Ops. An alpha test will take place in July on PC.

11:32 p.m. : Dragon Ball fans in turmoil with Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. Release scheduled for October 11, 2024.

11:31 p.m. : images of Tears of Metal, a medieval game with a particular artistic direction. We will be able to fight dozens and dozens of knights at the same time. We are promised a mix between rogue-like, cooperation and hack’n’slash.

11:29 p.m. : oh, new fighters for Street Fighter 6. Terry, Elena, Mai and M. Bison.

11:27 p.m. : Batman: Arkham Shadow is a Meta Quest exclusive. The superhero will face a new threat, capable of controlling rats. “ When the bat falls, the rat rises. »

11:25 p.m. : here is Metaphor: ReFantazio, an RPG developed by Studio Zero. Several archetypes on the program, which promises ultra-complex gameplay and synergies to work on.

11:22 p.m. : the show lacked blood so we have a little Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2.

11:20 p.m. : Starry Studio presents us Once Humanwhich will be released on July 9.

11:18 p.m. : and here we go for an impressive trailer of Black Myth Wukong, soulslike which could be the game of the summer (or even of the year?). Released August 20 on PC, Xbox and PS5.

11:16 p.m. : we completely change the atmosphere with Civilization VII, the future game that will keep management fans busy. The release is scheduled for 2025 on PC and consoles.

11:15 p.m. : the first cute game of the evening is called Never will. We will play a heroine accompanied by a white dog. Artistically, it is sumptuous.

11:13 p.m. : a little piece of Star Wars Outlaws, future big game from Ubisoft which will be entitled to a gameplay presentation during the publisher’s conference. The adaptation will be available at the end of August.

11:11 p.m. : big moment of fun in perspective on Twitch with Cufbust, where you will probably have to team up to escape from a prison. Any means will be good, like sliding the guards with soap. It was created by one person.

11:10 p.m. : A game of Quidditch! Remember that this “sport” is not in Hogwarts Legacy. Harry Potter Quidditch Champions will be released on September 3 on all platforms.

11:06 p.m. : We continue with a gloomy game, with zombies and an immersive first-person view. It feels like we’ve seen this 500 times already. The arguments: permanent death, eight-player cooperation and high replay value. The name ? No More Room in Hell 2.

11:03 p.m. : And here is the first announcement. It’s a Lego game, in partnership with Guerrilla Games. The game has been leaked and it is Lego Horizon Adventures. The animations are excellent and the graphics are cute. We can play cooperatively, on the same sofa. It will be available on PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch at the end of the year. Not cool for Xbox fans.

11:01 p.m. : Geoff Keighley comes on stage and welcomes us. He reminds us that we have two hours. And has a few words, very quick, for the studios that have closed. He also recalls that, of the 10 best Steam sales of the year, 8 were developed by independent studios. “There are many paths to success”: thank you Geoff.

11 p.m.: Start of the show.
