Updated 05/29/2024

Saturday 1er June, the Olympic Flame will cross the department of Ille-et-Vilaine. For several months, State services have been working with their partners, particularly the communities concerned, to make the passage of the Olympic Torch Relay on Bretillian soil a major popular celebration, while ensuring the security of this exceptional event.

As a reminder, the Torch Relay will travel through emblematic places in the department; from the coast to the heart of the territory, from the main towns to the most remarkable natural spaces: Saint-Malo, Feins, Fougères, Paimpont, Vitré, Saint-Just, Cesson-Sévigné and finally Rennes where the cauldron will be lit.

On June 1, 2024, more than 1,000 state and military officials (national and judicial police, national gendarmerie, deminers, territorial intelligence, CRS and Sentinel), more than 60 municipal police officers, more than 230 private security agents and nearly 200 first responders, or more than 1,500 personnel, will be mobilized to ensure the security of this large-scale event. Specific devices will also be deployed: aerial, nautical, anti-drone, dog-fighting and mine clearance.

Firefighters from the Ille-et-Vilaine Departmental Fire and Rescue Service will also be in reinforced posture (600 firefighters), to anticipate a potential increase in personal rescue needs.

Thus, in order to coordinate the action of all State services and its partners, Philippe Gustin, prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine, will activate the Departmental Operational Center (COD) all day June 1, 2024 .

The scale of this sporting event justifies special measures. In order to ensure the security of the entire route of the Flame, prefectural, departmental and municipal decrees have therefore been taken.
