the State could provide financial assistance for the Paralympic Games

Discussions are underway between the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Cojop) of Paris 2024 and the State so that the latter grants an extension of around thirty million euros for the financing of the Paralympic Games, indicated to AFP from corroborating sources, confirming information from Chained duck.

A few days ago, from government sources, it was indicated to the World that one possible avenue was to use the funds available, because unused, from the contingency reserve of the Olympic Works Delivery Company (Solideo) to strengthen the financing of the organization of the Paralympic Games.

This section “is in deficit”, recalled the Minister of Sports and JOPs, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Tuesday May 28 in front of the deputies. Uncertainties weigh in particular on revenues from Paralympic ticketing: out of 2.8 million places offered for sale, only 900,000 have found takers. One of the last areas of concern for public authorities in the preparation of the JOPs.

“There are budget discussions on the Paralympic Games”, several sources close to the Olympics told AFP. The figure for a subsidy of around thirty million from the State is under discussion while communities have also been contacted, the same source said. In December 2022, the State had already added 70 million euros for the Paralympic Games to the 100 million it had already put in initially.

A few weeks ago, Cojop asked the Ile-de-France region to contribute to the transport of accredited people (athletes, etc.), which is normally the responsibility of Cojop. The region had initially closed the door but the question has not yet been resolved.

A source close to the negotiations, however, denies that there is any question of the State covering part of the artistic costs of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. In its edition to be published on Wednesday, The chained Duckciting a document from “budget reporting” internal to Cojop, affirms that the State will settle 2.7 million euros to pay two “top artists” expected to participate in this opening ceremony which will take place on July 26 on the Seine.

The weekly, which also writes that the singer Céline Dion is one of these two artists, assures that this decision was taken by the President of the Republic. “It’s Cojop that chooses the artists”refuted two sources close to the matter to AFP.
