The raid on the medals will begin: the Sancy Artense Dome Games begin this weekend

Hosting the Olympic Games in France gave a very unifying idea to this intercommunity of Puy-de-Dôme: organizing its Games in rural areas. They start this weekend. The opening ceremony takes place on Saturday June 1 in Orcival.

There are going to be people on the starting line… Fortunately, there will be several… Starting this Saturday, the Dômes Sancy Artense community of municipalities (DSA) is activating sports mode. The 1,950 participants registered for the DSA Games promise to be in… Olympic form!
Modeled on the model of the Paris 2024 Games, from which they draw inspiration for the choice of events, these local Olympics promise, like their big sister, commitment, determination, effort and fair play.

The important thing is to participate…

At these games, some of the one-day athletes have already adopted the motto of the renovator of the Olympic Games of the modern era, Baron Pierre de Coubertin: the important thing is to participate! When he saw the list of final registrations for the events, Samuel Gauthier, one of the instigators of the DSA Games, widened his eyes.

I saw the name of an elected official that I know well, engaged in the sprint. I had a hard time believing it…

But the mayor of Olby sounded the reminder so well, in his village and the 26 others in the community of municipalities, and was so persuasive that many validated their registration. In order to participate in the general momentum and in this great local sports festival.

From Olby to Olympia, how were the 2024 Dômes-Sancy-Artense Games present during the lighting of the Olympic flame?

“He told me that we had convinced him. As he is not very athletic, he took the shortest distance: 60 meters… I think there are going to be some big gaps in the distance. arrival”, he already bets.

Judo, biathlon… but also hay bale throwing and tug of war

During the five weekends in June, the 1,950 participants will battle it out and try to win the medal in enamelled lava stone, wood or metal during 29 events including judo, boxing, archery. , biathlon and rugby, some of which are adapted sports. Less academic (and Olympic!), the inhabitants of Dômes Sancy Artense will also compete in pétanque, hay bale throwing and tug of war events. “Like in the great era of interbourgs which will bring back memories for some…”, says Samuel Gauthier. Samuel Gauthier presents the hiking trophies, which will be given to the municipalities following the counting of points in collective events: the participants will set off under the banner of their village. A trophy will reward the community whose inhabitants have traveled the greatest number of kilometers.

If the youngest of the 1,950 participants is only two years old and risks completing the hiking event on the shoulders of one of her parents, the oldest, 92 years old on the clock, should indeed finish his competition of… belote!

Medals in local colors

With, why not, a charm around your neck when leaving La Stèle, in La Tour-d’Auvergne, where the event will be judged. “Our local artisans, from the community of communes, were called upon to contribute,” appreciates Samuel Gauthier. Four professionalslooked into making medals: in enameled lava (for the highest step on the podium), in wood (instead of silver) and in metal (for third place). That’s 345 charms. A gourmet wink: there will also be chocolate medals given to certain participants who remained at the foot of the podium or who were singular… 450 medals will be distributed. On merit.

The enameled lava stone medal: the equivalent of the gold medal during these Sancy Artense Dômes Games.

A participant in the Don Camillo…

History does not yet say whether one of them will hang from the neck of Father Jean-Luc Varnas, priest of the parishes of Notre-Dame d’Orcival and Saint-Benoît-sur-Sioulet-Volcans, involved in the mountain bike event on Saturday June 8, nor if Notre-Dame d’Orcival will intercede in his favor…

Biathlon, fencing, but also wheelchair rugby, belote and hay bale throwing: what will be the activities of the Games in Dômes-Sancy-Artense in 2024?

Introduction to sport, for all and free
