On this occasion, the Roucas-Blanc Marina, the departure point for the boats, is adapted to reception measures for a competition of the scale of the Olympic Games with the construction of approximately 7,000 m² of buildings and the reorganization of 17 000 m² of outdoor spaces as well as a redevelopment of the pool.

The Marina was built as part of the 2024 Olympic Games and was inaugurated on April 2, 2024.

A little history… Olympic!

Since the first Olympic Games of the modern era, sailing has been on the Olympic program. Only, the bad conditions which reigned on the 1er April 1896 in Athens forced the organizers to cancel the events. The first events held will therefore be those of the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris. Since then, the categories authorized in the competition have been constantly evolving. The different events are organized according to the one-design categories of the boats, that is to say their size and weight.

Football

Football tournaments will take place from July 24 to August 10 At Marseille stadium.

It will host 10 football matches, from July 24 to August 6, 2024.

The hearts of the people of Marseille beat for football, it was logical that in 2024 the Olympic tournament would make a stopover there. The Marseille stadium (Stade Vélodrome) is today the second largest French stadium. Mythical venue and recently completely renovated and modernized, it is the scene of Olympique de Marseille’s home matches.

Built in 1937 in the capital of Bouches-du-Rhône (13), the Marseille stadium has undergone several renovations until the most recent which ended in 2014, covering the stadium with an impressive roof overlooking its rounded turns. Its lawn has seen all the major competitions organized in France: Football World Cups of 1938 and 1998, Football Euros of 1984 and 2016, Rugby World Cup 2007. It will logically host World Cup matches rugby 2023 and Paris 2024.

A little history… Olympic!

Football arrived very early on the Olympic program, from the Paris Games in 1900. It has not left it since then. Women’s football made its debut on the Olympic program at the Atlanta Games in 1996. The United States has been on the first step of the podium numerous times, in Atlanta in 1996, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. In 2016 Germany won, while in Tokyo it was the Canadians who won.

On the men’s side, Europe dominated the Olympic football rankings until the 1992 Barcelona Games, when Spain became the last European team to win the Olympic title. Since Atlanta in 1996, African and Latin American countries have taken over by winning each title, notably Brazil which won in 2016 and 2021. Many big names in football have added the Olympic Games to their list of achievements, like Ferenc Puskás in 1952, Lev Yachine in 1956, Samuel Eto’o in 2000, Lionel Messi in 2008, Neymar in 2012 and 2016, Marta in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020, or even Alex Morgan in 2012, 2016 and 2020.
