But, while waiting for it to come out, we invite you to discover 10 other series or films which resemble Squid Game. That is to say films or series where the characters must participate in deadly games.

The 8 Show

THE 8 Show is a Korean series released on Netflix recently, in 2014. Presenting itself as a black comedy, with black humorfull of irony, the series which currently has 1 season of 8 episodes is really very similar to the “Squid Game” spirit.

8 people agree to participate in a TV show where they will be filmed 24 hours a day. The aim of the game is to stay in the building as long as possible and win as much money as possible. The series asks many human questions such as the importance of the passage of time, but also the things you would be willing to do to have money.

It is also a criticism of the social hierarchy (which is based somewhat on the same idea as the film La Plateforme, which we recommend). And we also think that this is a criticism of game shows in Korea, which are sometimes very crazy and devoid of human dignity to attract audiences.

Alice in Borderland

This is one of our favorite series. Alice in Borderland definitely worth seeing. Besides, we have already listed the reasons that make this series incredible. The Japanese series is also based on the principle of mortal games.

We loved the different games, the characters, the recreation of a semblance of society, we really recommend this series adapted from a manga.

In 2019, we had the pleasure of discovering the first Escape Game film which was followed by a second film in 2021. This film is really very entertaining.

The idea is simple, several people participate in a escape game (you have to manage to escape from a room by solving riddles), except that this escape game is life-size.

In other words, if one of the participants cannot manage to leave the room in the allotted time, he dies. The participants will therefore have to go from room to room, each more ingenious and dangerous.

Choose or Die

This was definitely one of our favorite movies, when we watched it. Choose or Die (with the actor ofOtis from Sex Education) is a very good film in which two friends decide to reboot an old 80s video game in order to win a prize never before won.

Except that while playing this game, they end up falling into a surreal and very dangerous world in which you will have to make choices or die.

Circle

Released in 2015, the film Circle is also very similar, a real dystopia which makes you ask questions about its human values. What would you do if… Squid Game asks this kind of question, but so does Circle.

Available on Netflix, we follow in this film 50 people stranded in a dark room on marks on the floor. They must not go beyond their mark, otherwise they die. Their terrible goal? Survive. But for that, they will have to vote and designate who should die in their place. What to do in this kind of situation? Save your own skin or save another person, for example a child?

The genre of Battle Royale in video games refers to a survival game in which several participants must survive by all means and, in the end, only one will remain. In the case of the film Battle Royaleit’s the same.

We won’t hide the fact that the film has aged a little badly (2000), but it’s definitely worth a watch if you like this genre. This Japanese film confronts several people with adversity children in a class. They must survive at all costs, on a unknown islandwith the aim of being selected into a mysterious army.

The Hunt

We already told you about the film The Hunt, a real little gem in our opinion. In this film, we have a good cocktail of gore, but also black humor. The film evokes several themes such as the theme of conspiracy theory on the internet but also trust in others and cancel culture.

A group of people are hunted by a group of rich people and so they must survive and escape the hunters by all means. A very good film that is both symbolic and very funny to watch as certain aspects are absurd.

Hunger Game

Everyone knows The Hunger Games, but we had to put it in this selection. Based on books, the eponymous film series tells the story of a dystopian society in which the population is separated into several districts.

Overall, the richest are in the first and the poorest in the last. Every year, a big game is organized by the government: the hunger game. The idea is to have two people from each district compete in a deadly game in an arena. It’s a Battle Royal.

Re:Mind
